How to Prepare Your Home for a Cleaning Service
First time using a cleaning service? Here's how to prep your home so your cleaners can do their best work.
January 28, 2026
First-time cleaning service customers often ask: should I clean before the cleaners arrive? The answer is no, but a little prep work helps your cleaners do their best work.
What to do before your cleaners arrive
- Pick up clothes, toys, and clutter from floors
- Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher (or at least the sink)
- Clear off countertops where you want them cleaned
- Move pets to a quiet room or take them out
- Leave a note about anything special (allergies, fragile items, no-go areas)
- Make sure cleaners have access (key, code, or you're home)
What you don't need to do
You don't need to clean before us. That's our job. You don't need to provide supplies. You don't need to be home unless you want to be.
Special requests
If there are specific things you want done (or specifically don't want done), tell us when you book. Common requests include: skip the office, focus on the kitchen, no products with fragrance, change the sheets, run a load of laundry. We're happy to customize.
What to expect during the clean
Our team will arrive with all supplies and equipment. They'll check in briefly, confirm any priorities, and get to work. Most standard cleans take 2-4 hours depending on home size. Deep cleans take longer.
